چکیده

Shrinkage defect in an alloy steel casting for marine engine cylinder cover was estimated by numerical analysis with reference to casting variables such as riser and chiller. Retained melt modulus was employed as a prediction parameter in this study. Shrinkage defects were developed at the final solidification region. This is associated with hot spots, which could be controlled more effectively by adjusting the height of riser and by attaching chiller to the casting outside. Based on the numerical analysis, sound castings were produced successfully and economically.

Numerical modeling of porosity and macrosegregation in continuous casting of steel

1 ABSTRACT The continuous casting process is a widely used technique in modern steel plants. However, it is a complicated process that is not well understood. The objective of this research is to model the porosity and macrosegregation due to shrinkage related effects and solid deformation in the continuous casting of steel. Solid phase movements due to bulging and variable roll gap are modeled...

Experimental and Numerical Flow Investigation of Intake Manifold and Multi Criteria Decision Making on 3-cylinder SI Engine using Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper, technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution(TOPSIS) method is used to find the best compromising design of intake manifold for a 3-cylinder engine considering mean value of torque, torque at 3500 rpm, mean value of brake mean specific consumption (BSFC) and BSFC at 3500 rpmas four objective functions. To calculate the objective functions, engine simulation i...

The Analysis of Longitudinal Shrinkage in Butt Weld Joint (TECHNICAL NOTE)

In this research longitudinal shrinkage of two steel plates with identical thickness that are joint together through butt welding and another steel plate with bead welding. This study begins withthe introduction of a model, in which the thermoelastoplastic zones near the weld line is simulated with a thermoelastoplastic flat bar, and full-elastic areas beyond the weld line is simulated with a f...

Using Finite Point Method for the Numerical Simulation of Heat Transfer Coupled with Microsegregation during Continuous Casting

In the present work, a meshless method called Finite Point Method (FPM) is developed to simulate the solidification process of a continuously cast steel bloom in both primary and secondary cooling regions. The method is based on the use of a weighted least-square interpolation procedure. A transverse slice of the bloom moving at casting speed is considered as the computational domain and two di...

Evaluation of Heterogeneous Densification, Anisotropic Shrinkage and Rheological Behavior of Ceramic Materials during Liquid Phase Sintering by Numerical-Experimental Procedure

The effective shear and bulk viscosity, as well as dynamic viscosity, describe the rheological properties of the ceramic body during the liquid phase sintering process. The rheological parameters depend on the physical and thermo-mechanical characteristics of the material such as relative density, temperature, grain size, diffusion coefficient, and activation energy. Thermal behavior of the cer...
